Image Editing

With the art of photography seeing complexities through the passage of time, the tools of the trade are also becoming more advanced. Digital cameras are so commonplace nowadays due to its convenience. You can easily load the photos taken a few seconds ago, as opposed to having film negatives processed for an hour or two. Along with digital imagery, the art of tweaking pictures through image editing devices is also a popular activity.

Elements of Editing

Also known as image manipulation or enhancement, image editing is applied for either personal or commercial purposes. There are photography hobbyists who use color enhancing techniques using special software to create effects in their pictures.

Aside from photographers, web designers and artists also utilize image editing systems to spark more creative messages in their respective outlets of artistic expression. Color, angle and pixel size are the usual elements that are played around with. Manipulating images is also helpful in removing a few objects that can obstruct a certain perspective or image standpoint.

Sourcing Imagery

Professionals can shoot images that need no words to express a certain message. While some can take wonderful photos with an innate aesthetic sense, some are lucky enough to access image templates or web gallery sites to find what they need. These gallery sites offer random images that can be used in print adverts, banners, leaflets, brochures and even books. Some are free with corresponding terms of use and some charge minimal fees.

If you decide to use these picture repository sites, be mindful of basic copyright conditions governing the use of the photo you are downloading. There are rules that apply to using the pictures for personal purposes only, forbidding commercial sites to use them for profit. Then, there are some gallery sites with pictures that can be used for e-commerce sites but require citing of the source. Pay heed to the usage terms of such websites to practice basic net etiquette.

Photo Integrity

There is a major concern among photographers who shun the use of image editing tools. As image creation captures the raw beauty of an object, place or person, nothing should be altered to affect the outcome. Sadly, there are a few photographers or image professionals that go to the extent of perfecting the photo by changing more than what needs to be enhanced.

As much as possible, we should stay away from manipulating digital images. The ideal mindset towards these image editing software systems is that it is only for enhancing the quality, not the overall look. Retaining the integrity of a picture will not hinder the ways in which a thousand words can evoke from seeing such wonderful expressions of art.
